The Legacy of Juneteenth with the Underground Railroad Museum
Leesa Payton Jones, the Co-founder and Executive Director of the Washington Waterfront Underground Railroad Museum in Washington, North Carolina, will share how enslaved people in eastern North Carolina used common items including plants, nursery rhymes, songs, clothing, and dance to convey messages to abolitionists, ship captains, and others in obtaining their freedom. Together we will learn more about this dark chapter of history.
