Greetings from the Newberry Library: The History of Postcards
Postcards were once one of the most popular and inexpensive forms of communication. Today, they continue to remain in circulation despite the prevalence of email, texting and social media. Why have billions of postcards been made and sent since the late nineteenth century? How exactly did they get made? What fascinating stories do they reveal about the individuals who sent them and broader issues of American history? Join Will Hansen, Director of Reader Services and Curator of Americana at the Newberry Library in Chicago, for a discussion on the history of picture postcards. He'll share examples from the Newberry Library, which holds one of the largest postcard collections in the world.
