Sports Scandals
Join us as we use three American sports scandals and think about and discuss what they tell us about their transgressors, the conditions that contributed to their wrongdoing, media and public responses to the corruption, the cultural values they illuminated, and their legacies. More specifically, we will discuss the Black Sox scandal of 1919 and two more recent scandals: NBA referee Tim Donaghy’s betting on (and perhaps fixing of) NBA games, and the NFL intentionally misleading its players about the long-term effects of head injuries.
