Current Events with Gregg Birnbaum
Join journalist and professor Gregg Birnbaum for a weekly discussion examining each week's key news developments, both at home and abroad. From politics, health care and criminal justice/policing, to the economy, societal and global changes, foreign affairs and more, this discussion-driven course will be enriched by class members who come to share their views and listen to fellow discussion members. Each week we'll delve into topics of greatest interest, with major media outlets as our source (plus occasional readings). We'll leave each week better informed, with a better understanding of major news events, guided by the Gregg's insights and the class' viewpoints.

Gregg Birnbaum is a former assistant managing editor for politics at, where he supervised coverage of national politics and the 2020 presidential campaign, as well as the White House, Congress, and Supreme Court. He previously served as a senior editor at CNN, managing editor for politics with the New York Daily News, deputy managing editor at Politico, and political editor of the New York Post. He has taught journalism at Baruch College as an adjunct assistant professor since 2014.
